Kathy Giusti is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) and the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium (MMRC). Shortly after being diagnosed witih multiple myeloma, an incurable blood cancer, founded the MMRF in 1998 to fund innovative myeloma research and drug discovery. She then founded the MMRC in 2004 to enable leading research institutions to work with industry to speed the discovery and development of effective new treatments for myeloma. A graduate of Harvard Business School with an MBA in general management, Kathy began her career with Merck & Co., and later joined the Gillette Company. She then joined G.D. Searle & Co., where she last served as Executive Director of Searle's worldwide arthritis franchise. Kathy has received the 1998 Healthcare Businesswomen's Association's Woman of the Year Award, the 2001 Harvard Business School Entrepreneurial Award, the 2002 McCarty Cancer Foundation Humanitarian Award, the 2002 Joseph Michaeli Award from the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, the 2005 Harvard Business School Award for Courage and Valor, and the 2006 Partners in Progress Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Kathy has served on the Institute of Medicine's National Cancer Policy Board and the Cancer Leadership Council. She currently serves on the National Cancer Advisory Board, having been appointed to the position by President Bush, the Board of Directors for IMS Health, and is a member of the Health Research Alliance. Most recently, Kathy's efforts to advance cancer research and drug development have been featured in The Wall Street Journal and on NBC Nightly News.

Scott Santarella is the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the MMRF and MMRC, where he oversees the organizations' daily operations, strategic business planning, fundraising, research spending, programming, and public awareness efforts. In Scott's eight-years as Executive Director, the MMRF has seen its annual revenue grow 246%, while maintaining administrative and fundraising expenses at a combined 5%. Scott has been instrumental in the MMRF being recognized as an A+ charity by American Institute of Philanthropy – the only cancer-based organization which such distinction – and under his leadership the MMRF has received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator for four consecutive years. Scott's career experience spans the spectrum of the non-profit industry, from national fundraising for the March of Dimes, to international marketing and communication for the Knights of Columbus, to grassroots development with the Center for Environmental Activities, grant-making for the Educational Foundation of America. Scott received his Executive Leadership Certification from Harvard Business School in 2006. He graduated cum laude from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a BA in journalism.

Louise Perkins, PhD, is the Director of Research at the MMRF, where she is responsible for the strategic development and execution the MMRF's research agenda. Dr. Perkins brings more than 16 years of pharmaceutical research experience at two major companies to the MMRF. Prior to joining MMRF, she was Director of Cancer Research at Bayer Pharmaceuticals, where she contributed to advancing novel targeted therapies—including Nexavar and other innovative signal transduction inhibitors—toward clinical study. While at Bayer, she also served as Director of Research Licensing and was responsible for oncology licensing activities in support of cancer research programs. Prior to joining Bayer, Dr. Perkins led a cancer research group at the Schering–Plough Research Institute. In this role, she participated in several early-stage research programs including novel target-finding research using human genomics data. Dr. Perkins graduated from the University of Michigan with a PhD and MS in biological chemistry and conducted post–doctoral studies in molecular biology at Princeton University. She earned her BS in zoology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Anne Quinn Young is Program Director at the MMRF, where she oversees all communications as well as educational programming for and outreach to healthcare professionals and patients. Anne currently serves as the MMRF's representative on the Cancer Leadership Council (CLC) and as principal investigator on a major grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Prior to joining the MMRF, Anne was a consultant in the Healthcare Practice of Datamonitor, a global market research and business intelligence company. Anne previously worked in healthcare public relations at Burson-Marsteller and Chandler Chicco Agency, following a postgraduate internship at the Department of Justice, Antitrust Division. Anne has a Master of Public Health from the Mailman School of Public Health of Columbia University and graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College with a BA in government.

Anne M. Walker is National Events Director at the MMRF, where she oversees the Foundation's national event strategies plan and its regional organizational expansion plan. Anne brings to the MMRF an extensive entrepreneurial background, as well as a proven track record in event management and fundraising. Anne began her career as an institutional equity sales trader at Morgan Stanley and Company. Prior to joining the MMRF, Anne was co-founder and CEO of Nearwater Event Group, an event consulting firm. Previous to this, Anne served as managing director of Greenfield Healthy Foods Company. Anne has been active in fundraising and event organization as a volunteer with a wide range of groups, including the Center for Hope, Darien Public Schools, Bucknell University and Norwalk Hospital. Anne graduated from Bucknell University with a BA in economics.

Brian Porter is Director of Investor Relations at the MMRF, where he is responsible for creating and stewarding collaborative partnerships with the MMRF's major individual and foundation investors. A 12-year nonprofit professional, Brian began his development career with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), where he last served as Director of Corporate Development. Brian then enhanced his marketing and brand management skills with a position at Anheuser-Busch, where he served in many capacities including sports marketing, merchandising, new business development, brand management, and the management of the company's community partnerships. Brian returned to fundraising with his position at Save the Children, where he served as Associate Vice President of Corporate Marketing and Licensing prior to joining the MMRF. Brian graduated from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. with a BA in philosophy.

Joanne Puglia

Joanne Puglia is the Financial Manager at the MMRF, where she oversees the Foundation's accounting processes, including account receivables, banking, account payables, and all office financial reporting. Joanne also monitors monthly budgeting within for the Foundation's events and programming and coordinates the annual audit process for the Foundation. Joanne's accounting background has been developed through years of experience in positions held such as Financial Analyst for United Technologies, Pratt & Whitney and Manager of the Bursar Department and Student Finance at Sacred Heart University. Joanne earned her BS degree in education and accounting at Central Connecticut State University.

Jennifer Katritos is Director of Finance at the MMRF and MMRC. She has more than 15 years experience in both public and private accounting. Prior to joining the MMRC and MMRF, Jennifer was an associate with PricewaterhouseCoopers and previously held positions at Unapix Entertainment, Inc., M.R. Weiser & CO, and Deloitte & Touche. Jennifer received her BS in accounting from the State University of New York at Oneonta.

Carole Asher
Grants Coordinator

Carole Asher is Grants Coordinator at the MMRF, where she is responsible for managing research operations, including the disbursement of funding. Carole has more than 15 years of experience in policy and public health administration, including both writing and managing grants for federal, state, and municipal agencies, as well as corporate and private foundations. Prior to joining the MMRF she served as Grants Manager for the Yale–Griffin Prevention Research Center. Previous to this, Carole held a position at Columbia University Medical Center and Brooklyn Hospital, where she developed policies and procedures to streamline pre– and post–award grants management. Carole has served on the Centers for Disease Control's Breast Cancer Consumer and Advocacy Council and has co-authored the Standard of Care Manual for the Avon Breast Care Foundation. Carole received Master of Public Administration in health policy and management and her BS in political science from New York University.

Jennifer Novia

Jennifer Novia is Executive Assistant to the CEO and COO, as well as Office Manager and Patient Liaison, at the MMRF. In these roles, Jenn oversees a broad range of administrative duties and she serves as liaison between the MMRF and patients regarding courses of treatment, institutional recommendations, and donations. Prior to joining the MMRF, Jenn was contract administrator for Siemens Business Services. Previous to this, she held senior administrative positions at Honeywell Consumer Products Group, GE Capital Corporation, and Active Endeavors. Jenn also served for five years as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor's degree in legal administration at Western Connecticut State University.

Joan Levy

Joan Levy is Associate Director of Research at the MMRF, where she is responsible for the planning and implementation of the Foundation's research agenda. She has more than 20 years of experience in oncology and osteoporosis research in both pharmaceutical and academic settings. Prior to joining the MMRF, Joan was Technical Director at the Binding Site, where she supported the use of Freelite, a diagnostic assay for multiple myeloma. Previous to this, Joan was worked for nine years with Bayer Pharmaceuticals, where she was engaged in target identification, compound validation, and project leadership. Joan's experience also includes research in cell biology, orthopedics, and pharmacology at Yale University and New York University Medical Center. She earned her PhD in biochemistry from the University of Vermont and completed post-doctoral fellowships at Rockefeller University and State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook. She received her BS in biology from SUNY Stony Brook.

Karen Andrees is Counsel, Contracts Administration, for the MMRF and MMRC, where she oversees legal and contractual issues for both organizations. Karen received her JD and MBA degrees from Western New England College School of Law and a BS in justice and law administration from Western Connecticut State University. While a law student, Karen worked as a student attorney with the Scibelli Enterprise Center and as a paralegal with Attorney Richard C. Lubus in New Fairfield, Conn. Karen also served as Contracts Manager for Digital Autobahn and served as a Legislative Intern at the Connecticut State Legislature. In addition to her work with the MMRF and MMRC, Karen serves as National Legal Counsel on a pro bono basis for the Junior Chamber International USA and its state and local chapters nationwide.

Amelia Lewis

Amelia Lewis is the MMRF Race Manager, where she oversees the national Race for Research program. Prior to joining the MMRF, Amelia was special events manager at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Previous to this, she served as program coordinator at the Muscular Dystrophy Association, an account coordinator for PR Newswire, and was active in Kentucky state politics. She received her BA in liberal studies/communication from Midway College in Lexington, KY, and pursued post-baccalaureate studies at the Martin School of Public Policy at the University of Kentucky.

Theresa Miller

Theresa Miller is the Database Manager at the MMRF, where she oversees the data processing of donations received, handles donor inquiries and related e-mail communications, and sends out gift acknowledgements and notifications to families for donations made in honor of loved ones. Theresa also maintains the Foundation's database, including updating records, supervising data entry workers, and running monthly reports. Prior to joining the MMRF, Theresa was Donor Relations Coordinator at TechnoServe. Previous to this, she worked as Development Assistant at Stamford Health Foundation. She trained in business administration at the Katharine Gibbs School.

Sara Tyghter
Scientific Meetings and Outreach Coordinator

Sara Tyghter is the Scientific Meetings and Outreach Coordinator at the MMRF, where she is responsible for the overall planning and management of the Foundation's medical conferences and meetings. Sarah also plans MMRF corporate meetings, coordinates the Myeloma Mentor program, and provides support services to patients, myeloma support groups, cancer centers, and other healthcare providers. Sara has 20 years of experience in marketing, sales, and business development in a variety of industries, including promotional products, software, and payroll services. Prior to joining the MMRF, Sarah was Sales Administrator at Polyconcept USA and Marketing Manager at NeuVis Software. Her areas of expertise include lead generation, tradeshow and special events management, direct marketing, and seminar and webinar program development and management. Sara received her BS in business administration from Sacred Heart University.
